Principal Scientist in Enzyme Development, BASF
AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Michael Liszka holds degrees in chemical engineering from Purdue University and the University of California Berkeley. There his thesis research focused on protein engineering of industrial enzymes in non-natural solvent systems and the use of enzymes under extreme conditions.  He spent two years as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Sandia National Laboratory as a part of the Joint BioEnergy Institute, engineering both enzymes and solvents to improve the production of lignocellulosic biofuels. He has been at BASF Enzymes for the past 10 years continuing to focus on enzyme discovery and technology development for industrial, agricultural and consumer applications.  In his current role, Michael leads the enzyme discovery and the computational protein engineering platforms at BASF Enzymes continuing to expand the use of biotechnology and the development of sustainable products across many industries.  As an engineer his passion is using biotechnology to solve problems in ways that improve our use of natural resources and safeguard the environment.
